Having a clean house is an awesome feeling, but not many of us really like housekeeping all that much, this is why we gathered here some House Cleaning Tips. With these tips you can get the clean home you want fast and easy! Just read on to find out how to take the pain out of housework.
1. Be Prepared!
Being prepared means that you won't have to stop work once you've started (which is key to being efficient). So, before your big cleaning day make sure that you do two things. The first is to get all the sheets, curtains and cushion covers that you'll need washed, and the second is to get all the products that you'll need. At the very least you'll want: dusters, paper towels and sponges, as well as kitchen, bathroom, window and floor cleaner, bleach and furniture polish.
2. Get a Carry Case
Next, get yourself a cheap plastic bucket or basket to carry all your cleaning products in. That means no running back and forth to pick up something that you forgot from the cleaning cupboard, which will cut your cleaning time down.
3. Clean From the Top Down
Take a tip from professional house cleaning services and start at the top of the house and work your way down. You'll need to do this in individual rooms too, starting at the ceiling and working down. This stops you getting anything you've already cleaned dirty again, and the carpet or floor should be the last thing you do in any room.
4. Go Clockwise
As well as working from top to bottom, pro house cleaners also work clockwise around a room. Again this helps you keep clean things clean, but it also means that you don't forget anything important. Plus, looking at the clean half of the room will motivate you to get down to work on the dirty half!
5. Sometimes it's Easier NOT to Clean
Yes, house cleaning is important, but so is your time. Money might not grow on trees, but there are some things that it's just easier buying new than cleaning. A good example? Shower curtains. You could spend an hour soaking and washing a plastic curtain, sure, or you could spend a handful of Rands on simply buying a new one. It's your call, but time is money!
6. Get a House Cleaning Schedule
Would you hire a professional house cleaning service that showed up sometime on Sunday as long as they weren't too hungover or tired? Of course not, so schedule a time for your cleaning and stick to it. Once you've done a big clean you can make a schedule for smaller, daily tasks that will help you stay on top of things and keep your clean house.
7. Consider Teaming Up
One of the best house cleaning tips is to split the work up. Consider getting a friend in to help you clean one week, and you go and help her clean the next week. Two people get the job done faster, plus you'll be better able to do jobs like window cleaning with an extra pair of hands. The pros usually work in pairs, so so should you.
8. Get Rid of Grease and Soap Dirt
Two of the toughest things to clean are grease in the kitchen and soap dirt on the bathroom tiles. The secret to these two things? For grease make sure you heat the wet sponge you're using in the microwave for a few seconds before scrubbing down surfaces with a cleaning liquid. For soap dirt, use a flat, plastic putty knife to scrape down dry tiles, then wash with a soft sponge. Easy!
9. Prevention is Better than fixing
Some things are better off dealt with before they become a problem. So if you're sick of water stains on glass or plastic shower doors or bathroom mirrors, for example, then prevent the problem. Treating these surfaces with a water repellent coating (you can find that in the car section of a hardware store) will make them less likely to stain, and therefore faster and easier to clean.
10. Sink and Toilet Secrets
Finally, two more secrets for hard to clean fixtures. Stainless steel sinks can be a nightmare to get clean, but there's a simple trick: fill the sink with warm water, drop in a couple of denture cleaning tablets and leave over night. In the morning it'll be sparkling and clean. And stained toilets? Don't scrub them. Instead, fill the toilet with Coke (not diet!), leave for a couple of hours, then flush and clean as normal. Simple!
