About Aon Insurance
Aon Insurance is part of Aon, a company that provides a range of financial services as well as outsourcing and human resources services. Aon South Africa is just one branch of a company that provides services in 120 countries worldwide. Aon was launched in the 1980s after a merger between Combined International Corporation and Ryan Insurance Group. The current CEO of Aon worldwide is Gregory C. Case. Aon Insurance South Africa is an insurance brokerage, meaning they do not offer their own insurance policies, but instead evaluate customer needs and recommend appropriate policies, making them the middle man between consumers and insurance companies.

Home Contents Insurance with Aon
Because Aon are a broker they do not offer their own polices. Instead an Aon broker will assess your needs and design an insurance plan that's tailor made for you. This means that we can't evaluate Aon's household insurance policies, since your policy will depend on your needs. According to the Aon website, the company offers the following benefits, though whether or not your policy will include these will depend on your needs:
- Asset All Risk Cover, which means that items taken out of your home (things like handbags, for example) will be covered;
- An Asset Inventory will make sure that you have enough coverage;
- Special policies are available for things such as art, collectibles and even thatched roof properties.
Obviously, this isn't a lot of information, but presumably once an Aon broker has designed a policy to match your requirements you will get a full list of what is and is not covered.
How Are Customer Reviews for Aon?
There are only 64 reviews of Aon listed from the past year on the customer review website Hellopeter. Compared to other insurance companies that we've reviewed this is a very low number. Of these, 50 are complaints, giving Aon a 78% negative rating. However, as well as the small number of reports we also have to keep in mind that these reviews are about all of Aon's services, not just about insurance. The main subject of most complaints is poor customer service and feedback, which could effect insurance clients though, and indicates that Aon might want to concentrate on customer communications. Having said that, an Aon representative has responded to all comments on Hellopeter, so online communication seems to be important to the company.
How User Friendly is the Aon Website?
The Aon website is easy to navigate, and finding the section we needed was simple. But since the company is a brokerage they don't need to explain policies, meaning that there was little technical information. However, Aon did do a good job of explaining the process of getting a policy as well as providing plenty of contact information and explaining the benefits of using a broker rather than going directly through an insurance company. The only real complaint that we have about the Aon website is that in some cases (particularly on the home page) the typeface was very small, which could make for difficult reading for some people.
Aon in a Nutshell
Aon are an insurance brokerage, meaning that they will help you find the home contents insurance policy that is right for you rather than offering their own policies. Customer reviews for the company are mediocre, but given such a small number of reviews and the fact that reviews are for all of Aon's products means that these consumer reviews can't necessarily be relied upon. As always we do recommend getting as many quotes as you can before making your final decision. This should mean that you get the right policy at the right price!
