Kids' beds are a huge deal, especially if you're the kid involved! The step up from a crib to a bed, or from a toddler bed to a real bed is an important milestone in a child's life. And that means that it's all important that you choose the right kids' bedroom furniture.
There are going to be a few things that you need to keep in mind. Yes, children's beds need to be cool enough that they want to go to sleep in them (making bedtime easier!). But you'll also need to think about size. Kids grow fast, and the last thing you want is to buy a bed that they out-grow in just a year or so. Finally, you'll also want to think about safety. Many kids' beds these days are bunk beds or cabin beds, and require ladders or climbing. That means you'll need to consider not only whether your child is old enough to handle this, but also what safeguards the bed itself has.
As an added tip, it's a good idea to check into your household insurance policy too. Some, though not all, insurance companies, cover home accidents. Should the worst happen, and someone gets hurt, it's comforting to know that medical costs can be covered under your insurance. And don't forget damage to your home when the bed is being moved or installed!
That being said, we've got some awesome children's bedroom furniture ideas for you. Check out our list of the coolest kids' beds around!
1. The Bird's Nest Bed
Okay, you need plenty of space for this bed, but it is undeniably cool. Loads of room for play and sleep, and more than enough bed space for more than one kid, making it ideal for sleepovers! Just try not to think about how hard it will be to wash the sheets…
2. The Tractor Bunk
Bunk beds are awesome space savers, and this set of tractor bunks is one of our favourite boy's bedroom ideas. Plus, this design is easily changeable, and if you're handy you can DIY bunk beds into pretty much anything you want. Making bed time fun is important, and what could be more fun than sleeping in a tractor?
3. The Princess Bed
Wow. This bedroom is nicer than some grown up rooms! But if you've got a little princess, then doesn't she deserve her own castle? A big benefit here is that not only is the bed ground level (therefore safer), but the bed itself is full sized, and can be used as your princess grows older.
4. The Sailboat Bed
Another great space saver, this bed has sleeping space up top, and a relaxing playing and reading space below. Plus, all boys love boats, right? This might not be ideal for older boys, so keep in mind that you'll be changing the décor in a few years time.
5. The Sandwich Bed
We love this bed, and not just because it looks delicious. This is one of the most adaptable beds we've seen, since it's great for both old and young kids (and maybe some adults too). It's just a regular double bed, that happens to look like a sandwich…
6. The Tree House Bed
Just like the sailboat bed, this tree house bed is a good space saver. However, this time your child sleeps safely at ground level, and the relaxing area is above and can be used when he's more awake and less likely to fall. And then, well, it just looks cool!
7. The Pirate Bed
If you have a younger boy and you don't want him too far up, then this pirate bed is the perfect solution. It's cool, it's fun, but it's also safe. Again though, keep in mind that the bed itself is quite small, so you'll be shopping for an upgrade in a few years!
8. The Spaceman Bed
Alright, this isn't a bed exactly, but this is a cost effective option to get your kids a fun bedroom without having to spend a bunch of cash. This sheet and duvet set makes your child look like he's a sleeping spaceman, awesome! There are other options, but we like the astronaut best!
9. The Convertible Bed
This is a great bunk bed option because not only do you get some very cool and modern looking bunks, but the set also collapses down into one single bed with storage space underneath. This gives you the best of both worlds, and it's great for sleepovers too.
10. The Cheeseburger Bed
Last but not least, there's the cheeseburger bed. This is another bed that suits both younger and older children, and it's round, which means you can sleep in any direction you like (which most kids will do anyway!). Safe and large enough even for teens, this bed could be a great investment.
